The mission of the Human Factors and Ergonomics Society (HFES) and the Alamo Chapter is to promote the discovery and exchange of knowledge concerning the characteristics of human beings that are applicable to the design of systems and devices of all kinds. The Society and the Chapter further serious consideration of knowledge about the assignment of appropriate functions for humans and machines, whether people serve as operators, maintainers, or users in the system. Additionally, we advocate the systematic use of such knowledge to achieve compatibility in the design of interactive systems of people, machines, and environments to ensure their effectiveness, safety, and ease of performance. The Alamo Chapter was founded in 1981 under the leadership of the late Dr. Earl A. Alluisi, then with the Air Force Human Resources Laboratory, Brooks AFB. We conducted the 1984 National HFES meeting, held at the Hilton Palacio del Rio Hotel on the Riverwalk in San Antonio. (We are sure it was just a coincidence that this was the final Chapter-conducted National meeting before professionals were brought in to help!) Alamo Chapter Constitution and Bylaws
